A place for everyone’s turn
How the rotation works
Enter the people you live with and your recurring weekly chores. Choose the first week’s starting date, then select Update rota. The example names are placeholders.
Predictable turns
The first chore starts with the first person, the second with the second person, and so on. Each new week moves every chore one person forward, wrapping around the list.
Every chore is assigned exactly once per week. Chore counts differ by at most one person-to-person each week. Over a full rotation of as many weeks as there are people, each person gets every chore exactly once. Someone may have no chore in a week when there are fewer chores than people.
This balances the number of chores, not their effort, difficulty, suitability, or available time. Agree on suitable chores together. Break a large recurring job into clearly named smaller jobs if useful.
Editing and moving through weeks
- Use one name or chore per line. Empty lines and outer spaces are removed when you apply edits.
- Use 1–12 distinct names (up to 40 characters each) and 1–24 distinct chores (up to 100 characters each). Some emoji count as two characters.
- Changing names, chores, their order, or the first date recalculates the rotation. Applying setup returns to the first week. Earlier assignments are not archived.
- The arrows move the display one week. “First week” returns to the starting date. Choose 1, 2, 4, or 8 visible weeks.
- Apply or discard setup edits before moving weeks, changing the display length, printing, or backing up. The displayed rota uses the last applied setup.
Save, print, and restore
Applied edits and week navigation normally save in this browser. The example is not written on startup. Download a JSON backup to keep a separate copy or move a rota to another browser. Restore accepts a valid Fair Turn backup up to 32 KiB, then asks before replacing the current rota and setup edits.
Print includes the currently displayed weeks. Your browser may offer “Save as PDF.” Long names, many chores, or many weeks can need extra pages. Check print preview before printing.
Keep your copy safe
There is no account, online sync, shared household editing, or history. Use one editing tab. When saving fails or another tab changes the browser copy, automatic saving pauses and recovery buttons appear. Download the displayed rota and, if needed, the stored data before choosing which copy to keep. Restoring and loading a browser copy require confirmation and have no undo.
If setup edits are pending, apply them before making a backup. A browser may warn before leaving unsaved work, but that warning is not guaranteed. Clearing site data or using private browsing may remove your copy.
Supported dates
Weeks must stay within 1900 through 9999. The display can move up to 5,200 weeks after the starting date. Near the end of the date range, select fewer weeks or an earlier date.
